2. (53) Nando DeColo, SG

The Spurs decided to go global where they’ve had a lot of luck in the past by selecting 22-year old shooting guard Nando DeColo. DeColo played 3 seasons in the French and Euro Leagues averaging 13.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game. DeColo will likely be a project for the Spurs but he was worth taking where they got him.

2. (51) Jake McClinton, SG

Once again the Spurs get another steal. 23-year old Jake McClinton is a great offensive guard. He played in 125 games in four seasons at Siena and Miami (Fla) and he averaged 16.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. McClinton shot 42.6% from the floor in college. The Spurs are pretty well set at guard right now but he should be able to put up instant offense off the bench this season.

2. (37) DeJuan Blair, PF

The San Antonio Spurs were shocked to see 20-year old DeJuan Blair available in the 2nd round before snapping him up quickly. Blair is 6′7″, 265 pounds and he’s a very hungry player both on the glass and defense. Blair played in 72 games in two years at Pitt and he averaged 13.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.6 blocked shots per game. Look for Blair to learn behind Tim Duncan at power forward before replacing him down the road. This was such a steal the front office of the Spurs should take off the ski masks now.

2. (57) James Gist, SF

Blogged under General, The Draft Report, Bloglockers, Big Spurs News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 28 June 2008 at 11:24 am

The Spurs selected forward James Gist out of Maryland because he’s a hustle player. He is 6′9″, 235 pounds and he gives it his all at both ends of the basketball court. Gist played in 130 games (89 starts) at Maryland and he averaged 10.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.8 blocked shots per game. He could work his way into the playing rotation at some point next season because of his defense.

2. (48) Malik Hairston, F

Blogged under General, The Draft Report, Bloglockers, Big Spurs News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 28 June 2008 at 11:21 am

The Spurs acquired Malik Hairston, a 2009 2nd round pick and cash from the Suns for the rights to G Gordan Dragic of Slovenia. Hairston is a polished 6′6″, 220 pound forward who can do a little bit of everything. The Spurs will likely give him a chance to battle fellow rookie James Gist for playing time behind Bruce Bowen. Hairston played in 117 games (115 starts) in his career at Oregon and he averaged 14.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He also shot 59% from the floor which shows that he’s a decent shooter and that he only takes good shots. This was a nice move for the Spurs.
