Rookie power forward DeJuan Blair has been really solid for the Spurs this season. He has played in 54 games (20 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 18.1 minutes, 7.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Blair is shooting 55.2% from the floor but only 56.7% from the free throw line. Blair could work his way into the starting lineup to stay either later this season or in the near future.

PF/C DeJuan Blair has really played well when called upon by the Spurs. He has played in 33 games (10 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 16.8 minutes, 6.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Blair was a outstanding second round pick for the Spurs and he will be a starter in the near future for the team as he will make every team that passed on him pay for it.

DeJuan Blair’s NBA career off to a good start

DeJuan Blair has been a very good role-player off the bench for the Spurs early this season.  The 6′7″ rookie out of Pittsburgh was a second round pick for the Spurs and many said he lacked the height to be an effective NBA power forward.  His 270 pound frame has proved to be more than enough to make up for his lack of height thus far, as he is averaging 8.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in only 21 minutes per game.  He is also shooting 70% from the field.  In his NBA debut against the Hornets, he had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists in 23 minutes.  It looks like Blair may have been a steal for the Spurs, as he might end up being a double-double guy down the road.

The San Antonio Spurs are getting production from their rookies

The Spurs rarely have played their rookies over the last few years. But, when Tony Parker went down to injury someone had to step up and play the point and that man has been rookie George Hill. Hill has played in 11 games for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 23.3 minutes, 11.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Hill will likely be Tony Parker’s main backup when he returns from injury. F/C Anthony Tolliver has given the Spurs solid bench play so far this season. He has played in 8 games for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 14.3 minutes, 4.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. The Spurs are very pleased with the play of Hill and Tolliver so far this season.

The San Antonio Spurs didn’t have much playing time for Ian Mahinmi

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 21 May 2008 at 12:50 am

The Spurs only rookie was power forward Ian Mahinmi this year and he didn’t get much of a chance to show what he can do. He played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Spurs this season and he averaged 3.5 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Mahinmi probably won’t get much playing time in the near future as the Spurs are a very veteran laden team that is built to win right now.
