20-year old SG/SF Kawhi Leonard has worked his way into the starting lineup for the Spurs. He has played in 11 games (1 start) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 22.1 minutes, 7.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Leonard is shooting a very rock solid 50% from the floor so far this year. Leonard has a really high upside which was the reason that the Spurs dealt guard George Hill for him on draft night. 20-year old point guard Cory Joseph has only played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 5.5 minutes, 0.5 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.

26-year old shooting guard Gary Neal came out of nowhere (Towson State) as he was undrafted. Neal played in 80 games (1 start) for the Spurs this year and he averaged 21.1 minutes, 9.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Neal shot a stunning 41.9% from three point range as it seems the Spurs found another nugget that everyone else passed over. The Spurs waited a few years until 26-year old center finally came to Texas. Splitter played in 60 games (6 starts) for the Spurs this year and he averaged 12.3 minutes, 4.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Splitter shot 52.9% from the floor but he only shot 54.3% from the free throw line, so he has things to work on. 22-year old SG/SF James Anderson missed a lot of this season due to injury. He played in 26 games (2 starts) for the Spurs this year and he averaged 11.0 minutes, 3.6 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. The Spurs like this rookie class and they think they will help them both now and even more down the road.

The San Antonio Spurs are getting solid production from their rookies this year

The Spurs are really getting solid production off the bench from their rookie crop so far this year. 26-year old undrafted guard Gary Neal has played the best of this trio so far this year. Neal has played in 42 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 18.8 minutes, 8.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Neal came out of nowhere to be a very productive member of the Spurs’ very deep and talented backcourt. The Spurs waited a while before 26-year old center Tiago Splitter was ready to come to the States. Splitter has played in 31 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 11.0 minutes, 4.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Splitter hasn’t played much as of late as he’s pretty far down on the depth chart, but, look for that to change in the future as he is a very talented player. 21-year old SG/SF James Anderson was looking good early this year before suffering a serious injury. Anderson has played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 17.7 minutes, 7.0 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.5 assists per game. He is getting close to a return for the Spurs.

The Spurs have to be really happy with their fine group of rookies this year. 26-year old, undrafted shooting guard Gary Neal has been really solid for the Spurs so far this year. Neal has played in 27 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 16.9 minutes, 7.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Coach Popovich really trusts Neal as his P.T. is starting to rise. 25-year old PF/C Tiago Splitter has played in 21 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 11.2 minutes, 4.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. The Spurs are bringing Splitter along slowly because of the depth ahead of him. 21-year old shooting guard James Anderson was off to a good start before getting injured. He has played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 17.7 minutes, 7.0 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.5 assists per game. Anderson will likely have a decent role off the bench when he gets healthy.
