The San Antonio Spurs lose Tony Parker

Tony Parker has a fractured right hand which will cause him to likely miss at least the next six weeks. Parker has played in 50 games (all starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 31.6 minutes, 16.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. George Hill will slide over to point guard from shooting guard until Parker is ready to return to action. Hill has played in 60 games (25 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 28.1 minutes, 11.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Hill has really been solid lately as he is averaging 37.4 minutes, 16.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0 steal per game in his last 5 contests. Parker’s injury causes a chain reaction in the starting lineup as Manu Ginobili or Roger Mason will have to replace Hill as the starting shooting guard. Ginobili has played in 55 games (1 start) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 27.5 minutes, 14.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game. The Spurs would likely prefer to keep him coming off the bench if possible. Roger Mason was the starting shooting guard last season for the Spurs. He has played in 57 games (4 starts) this season and he is averaging 19.3 minutes, 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. The Spurs are lucky to have quality depth on the roster but they will miss Parker.

Tony Parker will miss several games for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Big Spurs News, Need to step up, Injuries, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 28 January 2010 at 6:27 pm

The Spurs will be without starting point guard for several games with a sprained left ankle. He has played in 40 games (all starts) this season for the Spurs and he is averaging 32.2 minutes, 16.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. George Hill will move into the starting line-up to replace Parker and he is a solid player. Hill has played in 44 games (9 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 25.2 minutes, 10.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. This will hurt the Spurs some as Parker is one of the best players on the team but Hill is a solid player so they won’t fall too much.

The Spurs will be without F/C Matt Bonner for the next four weeks due to a broken bone in his right hand. Bonner has played in 24 games (5 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 20.1 minutes, 8.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. His main asset is his long range shooting as he has made 45.1% of his three point shots forcing opposing teams to send a big guy away from the basket to defend him opening up Tim Duncan around the basket.

The Spurs will be without Michael Finley for the next 2-4 weeks due to a Grade #2 ankle sprain. Finley has played in 17 games (5 starts) this season for the Spurs and he is averaging 18.3 minutes, 5.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. The Spurs have enough veterans to pick up for Finley while he is out of action.
