Matt Bonner is off to a interesting start for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 29 November 2010 at 10:35 pm

30-year old power forward Matt Bonner is off to a interesting start for the Spurs. Bonner has played in 10 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 21.2 minutes, 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He is shooting an amazing 55.3% from three point range (21 of 38) so far this year but he’s only hitting 39.7% from the floor and 66.7% from the free throw line. Bonner is the long range assassin for the Spurs so they are probably happy with him right now. But it would be nice to see him start making shots other than 3-pointers.

The San Antonio Spurs sign Ime Udoka

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Spurs News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 25 November 2010 at 7:33 pm

The Spurs have signed 33-year old SG/SF Ime Udoka. Udoka played in 69 games (2 starts) for the Kings last season and he averaged 13.7 minutes, 3.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He has now played in 296 games (80 starts) in his first six seasons in the NBA and he is averaging 18.9 minutes, 5.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Udoka will be a nice upgrade on Danny Green for the Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs waive Danny Green

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Spurs News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 25 November 2010 at 7:31 pm

The Spurs have waived 23-year old SG/SF Danny Green. Green played in only 2 games (0 starts) for the Spurs this year and he averaged 4.5 minutes, 3.0 points and 0.5 rebounds per game. He didn’t get much of a shot but the Spurs saw right away that he wasn’t going to be able to give Manu Ginobili the time off the Spurs want him to get.

The San Antonio Spurs are starting to cut Tim Duncan’s minutes

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 17 November 2010 at 11:08 pm

The Spurs are starting to cut 34-year old PF Tim Duncan’s minutes in an effort to keep him healthy and fresh all year long. Duncan has played in 9 games (all starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 29.4 minutes, 13.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.0 blocked shots per game. The offense is more geared to Ginobili, Parker and Jefferson this season but I still think they will turn to Duncan inside when push comes to shove. He is still a outstanding basketball player and the Spurs know that can win without him and that’s why they are protecting him so far this year.

The San Antonio Spurs are getting decent production out of the rookies

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 17 November 2010 at 11:03 pm

21-year old SG/SF James Anderson is going to be out for a while with a major injury but he was playing well for the Spurs before he got injured. Anderson has played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 17.7 minutes, 7.0 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.5 assists per game. 26-year old C/PF Tiago Splitter is off to a so-so start. He has played in 7 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 12.3 minutes, 4.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. The Spurs will be expecting a lot more out of Splitter in the near future. 26-year old SG Gary Neal has been getting some of the minutes earmarked for Anderson before his injury. Neal has played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 13.4 minutes, 6.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. This is a trio that is going to give the Spurs good production in 2010-11.
