The Spurs have signed 22-year old shooting guard Alonzo Gee for the rest of the year. Gee played in 11 games (2 starts) for the Wizards this season in which he averaged 16.5 minutes, 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. He will start getting minutes for the Spurs as soon as he gets in town. I really like this move for the Spurs.

George Hill has been solid all year long for the San Antonio Spurs

With Tony Parker out of action the Spurs needed George Hill to replace him as the starting point guard and he is playing well. In his last five games, Hill has averaged 34.0 minutes, 13.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Hill has now played in 69 games (34 starts) this season and he is averaging 29.0 minutes, 12.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. George Hill is one of the better kept secrets in the NBA but the city of San Antonio knows that he is a big time player.

The San Antonio Spurs will likely start leaning on Tim Duncan more

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 24 March 2010 at 1:41 pm

With Tony Parker out do to injury and Richard Jefferson not playing up to his ability it seems as if the Spurs will need to lean heavily on Tim Duncan the rest of the year. Duncan has played in 66 games (65 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 31.7 minutes, 18.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.6 blocked shots per game. The Spurs will need a little more production out of Duncan offensively because they can’t afford to draw the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.

The San Antonio Spurs sign Garrett Temple

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Spurs News, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 15 March 2010 at 10:17 am

The Spurs have signed 23-year old shooting guard Garrett Temple to a 10-day contract. Temple has played in 14 games (0 starts) for the Rockets & Kings this season in which he is averaging 10.1 minutes, 4.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. This is a good signing for the Spurs as Temple has played decent this year and he should provide some help off the bench.

Antonio McDyess is still playing pretty well for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 11 March 2010 at 12:57 pm

The Spurs have watched 35-year old PF/C Antonio McDyess’ minutes this season and it’s helping keep him fresh and healthy. McDyess has played in 58 games (31 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 20.7 minutes, 6.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. McDyess teams with rookie DeJaun Blair to give the Spurs the muscle they need under the basket.
