Manu Ginobili is looking a tad off this season for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 22 December 2009 at 1:26 pm

Something just doesn’t seem right with Manu Ginobili so far this season for the Spurs. He has played in 20 games (1 start) and he is averaging 24.1 minutes, 13.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game. His shot selection has been poor as he is only hitting 38.8% from the floor but somehow he is still hitting 41.7% from three point range which doesn’t make a lot of sense. The Spurs need Ginobili to get back into a groove as the Western Conference is tougher this season.

The San Antonio Spurs lose Matt Bonner for a while

The Spurs will be without F/C Matt Bonner for the next four weeks due to a broken bone in his right hand. Bonner has played in 24 games (5 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 20.1 minutes, 8.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. His main asset is his long range shooting as he has made 45.1% of his three point shots forcing opposing teams to send a big guy away from the basket to defend him opening up Tim Duncan around the basket.

The San Antonio Spurs (15-10) got an all-around team effort in their win over the Los Angeles Clippers (12-15) last night.  They shot 51% from the field and went 5-10 behind the arc, leading to 7 different players in double-figures.  The Spurs got 41 points from their bench and held the Clippers to 44% shooting.  They kept them under 20 points in both the first and third quarter, helping them build a comfortable lead going into the 4th quarter.  Tony Parker went 7-11 for 19 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds while Tim Duncan took it easy, playing only 24 minutes for a solid 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.  A nice win for the Spurs last night.

San Antonio Spurs 103, Golden State Warriors 91

The San Antonio Spurs (13-10) dominated the glass, helping them get an easy win over the Golden State Warriors (7-18).  They outrebounded the Warriors 54-34 and shot 48% from the field.  They did have 20 turnovers though, which will usually lead to a loss when you turn the ball over that much.  Tim Duncan led the Spurs once again, dropping in 27 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks, and 1 steal.  They had four other players in double figures, including Richard Jefferson with 17 points.  On defense the Spurs obviously did a good job rebounding the ball, but they didn’t do a good enough job against the Warriors’ talented guard Monta Ellis.  Ellis had 35 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.  They kept everyone else in check, and all in all, it was a solid road win for the Spurs.
