The Spurs acquire F/C Melvin Ely from the Bobcats

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 13 February 2007 at 7:21 pm

The Spurs acquired Melvin Ely for G/F Eric Williams and a 2nd round pick in 2009.  Ely has been buried on the bench for the Bobcats but he should get more playing time for the Spurs.  Ely has played in only 24 games this season and he has been averaging 10.2 minutes, 2.9 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.  His shooting has been out of whack because of his lack of playing time as he’s only hit 38.3% of his shots from the floor and 68.6% from the free throw line.

For his career, Ely has played in 254 games (48 starts) and he has averaged 17.9 minutes, 6.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.  He has shot 46.2% from the floor over his career and only 63.2% from the free throw line.  This was a good trade for the Spurs as they need more production out of their bench.
