Tony Parker had a breakout season last year.  Parker averaged 18.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.8 assists.  Parker also made an outstanding 54.8% of his shots, as he uses his tremendous speed to get to the basket.  The only weaknesses in his game are two things he can probably fix with practice….his 3-point shooting (31.5% for career) and his free-throw shooting (69.9% for his career).  For his career, Parker averages 15.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  Parker is an outstanding leader and clutch player for the Spurs, and he’s only 24 years old.

Beno Udrih will get first shot at being the #2 point guard.  Udrih is a good shooter (44.8% FGs, 35.0% 3’s, 76.3% FT) but that’s his only real NBA skill.  Beno has averaged 5.6 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.8 assists per game in his NBA career.

Veteran Jacque Vaughn was brought to San Antonio to battle for the back-up spot with Udrih.  Vaughn is the classic pass-first type of point guard.  In 608 games in the NBA, Vaughn has only averaged 17.2 minutes per game.  In those 17.2 minutes, Jacque has averaged 4.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

Gregg Popovich has been a great coach for the Spurs, leading them to a couple NBA Championships.  The Spurs always play hard for him and it reflects on his record of 518-252 in 10 seasons as the Spurs head coach.

The Spurs went 7-6 in last year’s post-season.  Popovich has a playoff record of 76-47 in 9 playoff appearances.
