Antonio McDyess is playing well for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 2 February 2010 at 6:11 pm

PF/C Antonio McDyess has played pretty well despite playing less minutes than he is used to. That is because of the depth the Spurs have at the power positions. McDyess has played in 44 games (20 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 20.8 minutes, 6.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He is also shooting 51.7% from the floor but most of those shots are coming from inside the paint. Look for McDyess to really pick up his play in the playoffs for the Spurs as he will be fresh due to his lack of minutes this season.

Tony Parker will miss several games for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Big Spurs News, Need to step up, Injuries, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 28 January 2010 at 6:27 pm

The Spurs will be without starting point guard for several games with a sprained left ankle. He has played in 40 games (all starts) this season for the Spurs and he is averaging 32.2 minutes, 16.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. George Hill will move into the starting line-up to replace Parker and he is a solid player. Hill has played in 44 games (9 starts) for the Spurs this season and he is averaging 25.2 minutes, 10.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. This will hurt the Spurs some as Parker is one of the best players on the team but Hill is a solid player so they won’t fall too much.

Manu Ginobli is having a down year for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Spurs News, Need to step up by Andrew on Monday 25 January 2010 at 1:25 pm

It looks like age and injuries are finally catching up with the 32-year-old Manu Ginobli.  He is having his least-productive season since his first year in the NBA in 2002-’03 with the Spurs.  He even had better numbers last season in a 44-game injury-plagued season.  He is only hitting 40% of his shots and 36% of his threes, while averaging 12.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.4 steals.  Ginobli is obviously still very effective and still looks like the old Ginobli at times, but he looks a step slower and a little hobbled this season.  That is probably why he is only getting 26.5 minutes per game this season.  Considering the few amount of minutes he is getting, he is putting up some pretty good numbers.  He has been such a good player for the Spurs the last few seasons though, that this season is almost a disappointment for the Argentina native.  Ginobli can still be one of the most dynamic and dangerous players on the court at times, and if he gets himself healthy and back in form come playoff time the Spurs will be a very dangerous team to play in the West.

The San Antonio Spurs waive Marcus Haislip

The Spurs have waived forward Marcus Haislip. He played in 10 games (0 starts) for the Spurs this season and he averaged 4.4 minutes, 2.5 points and 1.0 rebound per game. Haislip has played in 89 games (8 starts) in his NBA career and he averaged 9.6 minutes, 3.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Haislip will be going to Europe to play and that is why the Spurs let him go.

The San Antonio Spurs are elated with the play of DeJuan Blair lately

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 22 January 2010 at 8:44 pm

20-year old power forward DeJaun Blair has really played well lately. In his last five games, Blair has played an average of 29.6 minutes per game and he is scoring 11.8 points, grabbing 13.8 rebounds, dishing out 0.2 assists and he is blocking 1.0 shot per game. Blair is also shooting 53.2% from the floor which is pretty outstanding. Blair has now played in 41 games (18 starts) this season and he is averaging 17.9 minutes, 7.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. The Spurs will continue to give Blair big minutes as long as he is playing well.
